Cowboy Mounted Shooting - a true Buffalo Bill Wild West Show!
One of the highlights of this year’s event will be an exhibition by a group of Cowboy Mounted Shooters. Imagine if you will, riders dressed in 1900’s period costumes, on horseback…. As they race across the arena in a timed event, they drop the reins and take aim at the targets. It is an exciting event full of fun and action. This is the fastest frowing Equestiran Sport in the Nation. A rider with a pistol will run a pattern in a set timeframe. Each pattern consists of 10 balloons. To give you an idea of riding a pattern, let's say that there are 5 white balloons and 5 red balloons. The 5 white balloons may be groped together in one place or speard out over the riding area. The rider shoots all 5 white balloons first. Then, after the rider holsters the first gun while riding, draws a second gun, and shoots the 5 red balloons, which are usually 5 in a row straight towards the finish line. This is called "the Rundown" and provides for a fast, action packed finish! Be among the first in Pinehurst to see these shooters live and in color! It couldn't get much closer to the Days and events of Buffalo Bill's Wild West. Annie Oakley was famous for her ablity to hit 100 straight targets. In fact, at the ripe old age of 64, Annie won "The Grand" by doing just that. In an attempt to recreate this challenge, we will pit at team of shooters from the United Kingdom against teams of shooter from the United States in a clay flurry challenge. Clay targets will simulate 50 birds in flight over a 30minute period. Whew! That is going to be some fast shooting!
