USA Shooting Ambassadors And "Annie Oakley Trap Challenge"

Annie herself was focused on the future of shooting sports.  In keeping with her vision, we are honored to have three medal winning shotgun shooters join us.  The USA Shooting Team has a long and decorated history. Most recently the team brought home six medals from the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games.

 We welcome USA Shooters:

Corey Cogdell

In only three years of competitive shooting, Corey has brought home a Bronze medal from the 2008 Beijing Olympics in Women’s Trap. Corey began hunting with her father when she was three, so shooting is deeply imbeded and her love for the sport has only grown with time.

Haley Dunn

At 23, Haley Dunn is a nine-year veteran of the USA Shooting Team.  Dunn has medaled in nearly every Skeet competition she has entered.  She brought home Gold at the 2007 Pan American Games and has medaled in numerous World Cups.  Dunn's sights are set on bringing home the Gold in London's 2012 Olympic Games.

AMBER ENGLISH

English is part of the US National Development Team and an up-and-coming shooter. English won the silver medal in the Junior Women’s Skeet event at the 2009 ISSF Shotgun World Championships in Maribor, Slovenia.
Prior to that, she took home the gold at the 2009 Shotgun National Junior Olympics held this past July in Colorado Springs, CO.

Nathan Hofer (16) and members of the USA Shooting square off in an "Annie Oakley"

The first shots that rang out on Pinehurst No. 8 were those of Nathan Hofer, an All American Shooter, and representatives of the USA Shooting Team.  A fitting tribute to Annie Oakley as it is the first time in nearly 25-years that shots have been fired in Pinehurst since the closing of the old Pinehurst Gun Club.  These shooters warmed up the crowd for Tim Bradley's sharp shooting exhibition.

In this challenge, shooters stand shoulder-to-shoulder at the 27’ trap line.  This single elimination event requires that groups of three prepare to shoot the clay as it is thrown.  The first shooter in the group takes the first shot, if the target is missed, the next shooter must shoot the target and if the second shooter misses, it falls to the third shooter to take down the target. Successful shooters advance to the end of the line for another round.  The winner is the final shooter standing.

These wonderful USA Shooters spent time talking with the spectators and signing autographs.
